A View To Match The Food: Cantueso

Located about 58 kilometres east from Malaga, lies Periana, a small town surrounded by mountains. In the outskirts, the Guaro river widens into the Vinuela Reservoir. Not so far from this lake is the restaurant and holiday cottages Cantueso.

Lars and I had seen an ad in a magazine about this restaurant and we were very eager to taste the food and savour the views. And we were not disappointed…

On the internet, we had already looked at an example of the menu, so we knew more or less what to expect. I chose croquettes stuffed with paella as a starter, whereas Lars had the deep-fried “calamaritos” (small squids). Most of the starters are popular tapas and you are encouraged to mix and match.

I usually choose fish or seafood as a main dish, but the pork fillet with Malaga sauce and raisins stole my heart: Lars, on the other hand, had a soft spot for the duck with red fruit sauce. Both were served with a creamy potato gratin.

We could not resist temptation and ordered dessert as well. We both had profiteroles (no pictures) and ended the meal with a sweet sherry.

Cantueso is maybe not the cheapest – nor the most expensive! – restaurant in the area, but the views, the delicious food, generous portions and the very friendly staff make up for that. All in all, this was a positive – and romantic – dining experience.

You can find the exact address (and how to get there) and opening times on their website. Check out their blog as well!
