A Jungle in the Heart of the City – Bioparc Fuengirola

One of the most popular holiday destinations in the Costa del Sol is Fuengirola, located about 25 kilometres to the west of Malaga Airport.

A popular attraction in Fuengirola is Bioparc Fuengirola, a small zoo where two concepts are important: respect for nature and preservation of the species that inhabit the premises.

According to the zoo’s website,

Talk of BIOPARC Fuengirola is referring to a different concept, a park where animals live together in a recreation of their natural habitat that favors their development at all levels. Visit is like stepping into a real documentary about the deepest tropical forests of Madagascar , Equatorial Africa , the Southeast Asia and the islands of the Indo-Pacific .

Bioparc Fuengirola immerses its visitors in the environment of the animals, a concept which is called zoo-immersion.

Bioparc is home to more than 30 species of birds, more than 20 kinds of mammals and about 20 species of reptiles.

You can find more information on their website.

Bioparc is open every day of the year and there is parking space nearby. Lars and I thought that the zoo was very charming, but the restaurant was quite expensive. It took us about 1,5 hour to see all the species (and to take a lot of pictures!).
