Goodbye 2017, Hello 2018!

Change. If there is one word that characterizes 2017 – and 2018 as well actually – it is this word: change.

Let’s start with the bad news: the “death” of our car. It didn’t come as a complete surprise – we had driven more than 270.000 kilometres with it! –  but we had hoped it would have lasted a bit longer. On the other hand, a car is a thing and things can be replaced. Lars has his eye on a new vehicle and will start negotiating very soon. In the meantime, we will be “train tripping” and “bus tripping” in and around Belgium.

The good news is that after 2 years of severe illness and a little less of one year of unemployment, I have found a job again. I am still a language teacher, but this time as a freelancer. Not my first choice to be honest, but at least I am making money again doing something I really like.

Although we didn’t travel as much as we wanted to in 2017, we do have very fond memories. This is our top 5:

5. Driving around in the Black Forest.
4. China Light Zoo (still to come on the blog).
3. Käthe Kollwitz and the Grieving Parents.
2. Chateau d’Antoing.
1. The bears of Bad Rippoldsau.

For the moment, Lars and I have decided to no longer make long(er) trips. Don’t worry, we will still be travelling, but the trips will be shorter and not so far away. Somehow, we have realized that closer to home there is still a lot to discover; Lars, for example, has never been to Spain and Portugal, and I would like to spend more time in Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

Anyway… Lars and I are ready for new adventures and we sincerely hope you will keep on following us!

Good luck with your new job. I too used to be a language teacher, but changed careers. I still miss it sometimes.

Unfortunately, my depression has come back in the meantime, not sure what my professional future will look like…

I’m sorry to hear that Ingrid. I hope you feel better soon.
