Hortobagy National Park – Part 2

High on our wishlist was the visit to the Stud of Mata, the Horse Breeding Centre. Yes, this is the place where you can admire the famous horses of the puszta. Lots of activities going on here: you can visit the stables, join a horse-drawn carriage drive or see a spectacular show where the horses perform all kinds of tricks. The first activity is free, the other two are not. Ingrid and I wanted to see the horses in their “natural” state and the carriages are overcrowded in the tourist season, which is not our cup of tea.

When we parked the car, we saw a beautiful horse, which we immediately nicknamed The Brown Lady. A brother and his sister tried feeding her and we showed them how to put the food in their hands. The trick worked and the children were ecstatic. The Brown Lady herself was very interested in Ingrid’s camera, which made photographing her a bit of a challenge.

Luckily, Ingrid also managed to make a short clip of her.

We admired some other beauties as well:

Ingrid and I visited the National Park in August 2014; it can be very hot (35¬įC and more), so if you want to cool down head towards the villages around the river Tisza:
