Our Adaptable Adventure – Another 12th century gem

The Viking and I are no religious fanatics. Really not. But we do love a beautiful church!

Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère was so crowded, especially along the river and in the many pubs and restaurants. The only place where we could enjoy some peace and quiet was the church of Saint Léonce.

As I told you before, the church dates from the 12th century. It had to be restored in the 20th century, but most of the restoration concerned the exterior. Just like with the church of Audrix, it feels like being transported back in time when you enter it. And its location near the river makes it almost idyllic!

These are awesome – they don’t build churches (or anything else) like they used to. Beautiful!

Can you imagine cutting stones in the 12 century, transporting them and hoisting them to those heights. And the work was magnificent. Beautiful.
